Another Beer Company – All Together IPA

Supporting the hospitality industry through a world-wide craft beer collaboration

What week of physical distancing are we in again? It seems like the days having been blending together for the past couple of months now. Weekends don’t really feel like weekends. Weekdays are largely spent staring at screens and talking over the phone. I know… I should just be thankful that Luke and I are both still healthy, employed, and have been enjoying a plethora of delicious craft beers (thanks breweries!) at our respective homes. But I still miss the good ol’ times!

With news over the last few days that some breweries have opened their doors (with numerous health precautions in place) it seems that a semi-normal state is on the horizon. Even with this positive news it’s still going to be a long road to recovery for our local breweries that have been relying primarily on packaged product sales for months.

One amazing initiative that has come to light in the wake of COVID-19 is the ‘All Together’ project spearheaded by Other Half Brewing Co from New York. All Together is a “worldwide, open-ended beer collaboration created to raise support for the [hospitality] industry”.

As part of this initiative, Other Half has provided a straightforward IPA recipe featuring easily accessible ingredients (to keep costs down), label artwork templates for 12 and 16 oz cans, and other helpful tools for breweries to access free-of-charge. Their only ask of participating breweries is to donate a portion of the proceeds from beer sales to hospitality professionals in their respective communities.

A handful of breweries in BC have gotten involved with the All Together initiative, including Another Beer Company, Superflux Beer Company, Twin Sails Brewing, and Russell Brewing to name a few. Luke and I were able to get our hands on Another Beer Co.’s rendition of this IPA thanks to the awesome ABC crew.

ABC has taken a straightforward approach to the editable portion of the All Together label artwork; displaying a crisp photo of New Westminster, the city they call home, with their brewery logo emblazoned on top.

The beer itself is an interesting mix of the new school (East coast haze) and old school (malt-forward and bitter) IPA styles, utilizing Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe, and Cascade hops. It pours a bright, golden colour and is nearly opaque. I got notes of citrus fruit on the nose, and grapefruit flavour on the body. While there are some brighter fruit accents, the All Together IPA has a delicious biscuit malt flavour, and solid bitter bite that lingers. I also noticed some dank, grassy hop notes after the beer warmed slightly.

You can purchase single, 12oz cans of ABC’s take on the All Together IPA via their online beer store for $4/can. Again, a portion of the proceeds from this beer helps support local hospitality professionals; many of which have been negatively impacted from the COVID-19 pandemic. Now is a better time than ever to support your local brewery, and in turn, your community.

Let us know what your favourite All Together IPA has been so far. Stay safe out there, and happy drinking!

Disclosure: Thanks to Another Beer Company for hooking us up with a couple of their recent releases, including the All Together IPA.
